Alembic Ltd was founded in 1906, is a pharmaceutical manufacturer, specializing in antibiotics and other fermentation products in bulk and finished forms.The company has started basic research for new chemical entity development, and is collaborating with the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune and the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, for rational design, synthesis and screening of new antimicrobial Macrolides. A screening program has also been started to find more potent microorganisms from Indian soil. It is also researching improvements in its process chemistry and biochemistry
